Pony Up! A PonyTail cap free pattern

Adult "Pony Up" Cap

Materials
5.5mm hook
Ww yarn in 2 colours
Yarn needle
Small hair tie/rubber band approx 1/2"-3/4" across

Beginning chain does not count as a stitch
Gage - 4 sc x 4 rows = 1"

American terminology used
Ch - chain
Ss - slip stitch
Sc - single crochet
Hdc - half double crochet
Dc - double crochet
Tc - treble crochet
CA - colour A (main colour)
CB - colour B

Join CA to elastic with ss
Rnd 1. Ch 3 (does not count as stitch). Work 18 tc around elastic. Ss to first tc to join (18)
Rnd 2. Ch 1. 2 sc in same st. Sc in next 2 sts. (2 sc in next st. Sc in next 2) around. Ss to join. (24)
Rnd 3. Ch 1. 2 sc in same st. Sc in next 3. (2 sc in next st. Sc in next 3) around. Ss to join (30)
Rnd 4. Ch 1. 2 sc in same st. Sc in next 4. (2 sc in next st. Sc in next 4) around. Ss to join (36)
Rnd 5. Ch 1. 2 sc in same st. Sc in next 5. (2 sc in next st. Sc in next 5) around. Ss to join (42)
Rnd 6. Ch 1. 2 sc in same st. Sc in next 6. (2 sc in next st. Sc in next 6) around. Ss to join (48)
Rnd 7. Ch 1. 2 sc in same st. Sc in next 7. (2 sc in next st. Sc in next 7) around. Ss to join (54)

Rnd 22. Ch 1. Sc in same st and around. Ss to join.
Rnd 23-25. Repeat rnd 20-22

Back will be worked in rows
Row 1. Ch 1. Sc in same st and next 37 sts. Turn (38)
Row 2. Ch 1. Sc in same st and across. Turn (38)
Row 3. Ch 1. Sc2tog. Sc across to last 2. Sc2tog. Turn (36)
Row 4. Ch 1. (Sc2tog. Sc in next 4) 3 times. (Sc in 4 sts. Sc2tog) to end. (30)
Row 5. Ch 1. Sc in same st and across. Fasten and cut off.  Sew in ends

Optional brim worked in rows
With right side facing you, skip 2 stitches to the left of the back that you just completed and join yarn with ss in third st.
Row 1. Ch 1. Sc in front loop only of same st and across until there are 2 empty sts left before reaching the back flap.
Rows 2-7. Ch 1. Sc2tog. Sc across to last 2. Sc2tog. Turn
At the end of row 7 fasten and cut off. Sew in ends

Attach CB with ss and sc evenly around entire hat. Ss to join. Fasten and cut off. Sew in ends
